**Late fall through winter — roughly November through February — is the best window in Houston,** for both install quality and price.
The reasoning is specific to our climate:
– **Summer heat is hard on shingles and crews.** Asphalt softens in extreme heat and scuffs under foot traffic during installation. Crews also work slower in July and August, which is a safety necessity.
– **Winter here still seals properly.** Shingles need warmth to activate their self-sealing strip. In northern states that’s a real winter problem — Houston’s winter daytime temperatures are more than sufficient.
– **Spring is storm season.** March through June brings our hail. After an event, every roofer is booked, material lead times stretch, and pricing firms across the board.
– **Hurricane season runs June through November,** so a tear-off then carries a higher chance of weather delay with the roof open.
The exception overrides everything else: **if you have an active leak, replace it now.** Water in decking and insulation compounds daily, and waiting for a better season while your deck rots is a bad trade.
If your roof is aging but not failing, planning for late fall gets you better scheduling, more crew attention, and pricing untouched by post-storm demand.
